Psycho Toddler Years and Donut Homecoming

Happy Birthday! Psycho Donuts turns three on February 28! This crazy toddler has created some pserious psycho turmoil during it's formative years! Psycho Donuts has received insane press attention in its short life, including:
  • The Today Show
  • The Travel Channel
  • Fox News
  • Fox Business News
  • Entrepreneur Magazine
  • Maxim Magazine (Top 10 Donuts in the US)
  • Eye on the Bay
  • Food Network Magazine
  • Bon Appetit Magazine
  • USA Today
  • Virtually every local news channel
  • 105.3 - Live 105
  • 97.3 - Alice Radio
  • AM 810 - KGO Radio
  • Coverage as far and wide as Ethiopia, Japan, Singapore 'n more!
That's a lot of crazy attention for an ornery 3-year-old! Imagine what the future holds once this pspoiled child hits puberty! Nostradamus foretold of a donut-shaped madman who inflicted the world's most unusual fried dough upon the planet - with terrifying effects on humanity (actually we made that up, but it sounds good, huh?). Was Nostradamus referring to our very own Donut Guy?

Many Psycho fans will recall the Psycho controversy days, when mental health protestors managed to turn Psycho Donuts into a nationally known brand, vaulting Psycho Donuts into the Top 10 Google search terms in 2009!

The donut discontent was centered primarily around a handful of donut names. Who remember a harmless cake donut - topped with 1/2 nuts and 1/2 coconut - originally known as The Bipolar? Psycho Donuts ultimately moved to a "manifestations-based" naming paradigm, and the Bipolar became The Mood Swing. And then unthinkably, it was discontinued. But donut fear, for The Mood Swing will return with all of it's nutty attitude... because along with every Psycho anniversary, there is always...

...lost donut souls, and their pilgrimage home to the Psycho Psanctuary

New donuts emerge from the Psycho kitchen at an alarming rate, thanks to Chef Ron's insane creativity. But sadly, difficult donut decisions abound for Psycho management. How do you make room for new donutrocities, when the incumbents refuse to make room? It's a tough world out there, and that applies to donuts too. Every donut has its loyal fans, so you can image the donut dystopia whenever we make a donut delisting decision.

For this reason, we bring back donuts from the brink of extinction each year; lost souls vaulted back to the limelight. Think John Travolta in Pulp Fiction; or Mickey Rourke in The Fighter. Maybe they come back to stay; then again, maybe they donut.

Missing in action for the past 18 months - we're insanely pleased to welcome Manic Malt's return to the Psycho Mother Ship. Manic Malt is topped with chocolate icing, crushed malted milk balls, and vanilla drizzle. Many Psycho fans will be thrilled to get re-acquainted with this malty mess!

Who remembers Lightning Lemon? Graham crackers and a lemony center resulted in this pseriously crazy donut. Eventually, Lightning Lemon got into fights with his donut roommates and hit the road. But in spite of it's sour personality, we're thrilled that Lightning is returning to Psycho Donuts for a short visit. Welcome home!

And that's not all! Other long lost donut souls are in transit, making their way back to the Psycho Psanctuary. Make sure to stop in and say hello to your favorite long-lost donut from Psycho past. And watch our Facebook page in March for your chance to vote on which lucky-long-lost donut will - again - find a permanent home in the Psycho display case.

What ever became of Crazy Face? Donut hole-eyes/nose perched on a maple-topped donut? That's a tough lot in life. Crazy Face went out to find itself, and we're happy to report that it's coming home... just in time for Donut Homecoming! Welcome back, Crazy Face!

If you're gonna call a donut, "The Psycho," then it better be crazy. And The Psycho was about as insane as they come. He's back for a short visit!

The Psycho is topped with marshmallow, pretzels, a cross-hatch of chocolate and key lime drizzle, and a dazzling dose of cayenne pepper. All of the food groups (sweet, sour, salty, and spicy) in a single bite! Come get a Psycho before he's gone!

A Psuper Pspecial Psycho thanks to our Psycho artists for participating in our LOVE / HATE Art show over the past month. Psycho thanks also to Pamela Costa with the San Francisco Examiner for this great article on our Psycho Donuts' Anti-Valentine's Day antics.

Come 'n get your Homecoming Donuts before they are gone!
