Psycho Donuts Launches Bug-Topped Donuts for National Donut Day and Annual Donut Eating Contest

PsychoDonuts will unveil two new donuts – Chirp Derp and Worm Hole - which feature edible bugs. The donut recipes will also be featured in the company’s third annual donut eating competition. A bug-themed art show, highlighting original works by local artists, will open at the company’s flagship store, coinciding with the National Donut Day festivities.

CAMPBELL, CA  May 22, 2012 --- Psycho Donuts has launched a new series of donuts, collectively dubbed PsychoBugz, which include edible crickets and larvae as donut toppings.

PsychoBugz will be available immediately before and after National Donut Day – recognized nationally as the first Friday in June.   Ron Levi, Doctor of Donut Derangement at Psycho Donuts said, “ ‘Donut’ be afraid!  While bugs may have a bad rap in the US, they are enjoyable snacks in other parts of the world, and are very high in protein.  More importantly, crickets and larvae are exotic elements in our crazy new donut recipes!”

Chirp Derp is a chocolate cake donut, with a hint of pumpkin and chipotle. The donut is iced in dark chocolate, with a drizzle of milk chocolate, and a sprinkle of bacon bits. Three bacon-cheddar crickets are perched atop the donut, tempting all who are willing to try something new and different.

Worm Hole is a jalapeno tequila-spiked cake donut with salted lime icing, keylime drizzle, and a Mexican spice larvette near the donut’s center.

Go Linda!  From 2011 Donut Pizza Eating Contest

Psycho Donuts Campbell will host its 3rd Annual Donut Pizza EatingCompetition on Saturday June 2, 2012 at 2:00pm – the day after National Donut Day.  The competition will pit 4 contestants against one another.  The winner will be the first to finish a 14” Donut Pizza, which typically serves 8 – 10 people.  Each donut pizza will have several of Psycho Donuts signature toppings, including the new recipes for National Donut Day.  The winner of the contest will receive a copy of the DVD, A Bug’s Life, a Psycho Donuts T-shirt, and a certificate for a dozen Psycho Donuts.

In conjunction with the release of PsychoBugz Donuts, Psycho Donuts will host a bug-themed art show at its Campbell location entitled “The Good, The Bad, and The Bugly,” from May 26 – July 26, 2012.  The art show will feature original works of local artists, including: Christine Benjamin, Sheri DeBow, Murphy Adams, Carlos Villez, Lacey Bryant, Michael Foley, Nicolas Caesar, Laura Callin Bennett, John Renzel, Jared Konopitski, Kori Thompson, John Cloud, Laura Zarrin, John Hageman, Anthony Barbaria, and Michelle Waters. Prices start at $40.  An Artist’s Open House will be held at Psycho Donuts Campbell on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 10:00am – 3:00pm.

Psycho Psushi Pseason

Psycho Donuts launched Psycho Psushi last May - in conjunction with FanimeCon.  We figured that donut sushi, complete with a bento box and pocky chopsticks - might generate a little interest. We were taken off-guard by a line of 1,000 people, which literally wrapped around a downtown San Jose block for an entire weekend.

News of Psycho Psushi literally spread around the world, and fans have been patiently awaiting Psycho Psushi's imminent return.

This year's version of Psycho Psushi will include some new Psushi varieties.  Our Psushi bento box comes complete with Pocky chopstix (Pockstix?), and - new this year - Psycho Wasabi (green tea butter cream)!

Lesson learned... we'll be making a couple (as in a  couple thousand) more trays than last year!

Psycho @ Fanime?  You Betcha!

A team of our very best Field Nurses will be selling Psycho Psushi - on-site at the San Jose Convention Center - throughout Fanime.  Get your Psushi fix either at the convention center, or a couple blocks down San Carlos Street at Psycho San Jose.  You'll also find Psycho Psushi at Psycho Campbell!

Our Psycho Fanime booth will sell a variety of Psycho-worthy drinks, featuring unassuming titles such as  True Blood Beverage, Bawls, Bug Barf, Zombie Brain Juice, Duff, and Resident Evil T-Virus.  If you're coming to Fanime, stop by for a sushi bento, a crazy drink - and as always - a free square of stress-relieving bubble wrap!

So there ya have it.  Psycho Psushi Pseason is almost here!  Look for initial bento boxes in small doses the week of May 21.  The Psushi factory will crank into warp speed May 25 - 28, coincidentally overlapping the dates of Fanime.

It's Mother's Day at Psycho Donuts!

Is your mom Psycho?  You know where to bring her!

This Mother's Day, we have donutized the mimosa, or as we like to call it, The Psycho MOMosa!  This colorful donut has a champagne pastry cream on the inside, orange icing on top, and a citrus swirl topped with rainbow sprinkles.  Skip the expensive Sunday Brunch Mimosa, and get a Psycho MOMosa instead!

Would you get a tattoo that says "Mom?"  If you're crazy enough to consider it, then we've got just the Mother's Day donut to prove it!  A Mother's Love is a heart-shaped raised donut, filled with white chocolate and passion fruit.  A MOM Tattoo is permanently sewn into the strawberry top of this love-fest of a donut.  Show Mom the depth of your love for her this Mother's Day, with A Mother's Love!




We hope you made it to Psycho Donuts for Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you...).  We served up ChewyDough - our furry Chewbacca inspired donuts.  In addition, many of you enjoyed a tasty inter-stellar delicacy known as Wookie Ballz.

Tacos and Fries Donutized

Remember when you were a kid; you'd lay in the grass staring at the clouds, calling out interesting shapes? Chief Psycho was that annoying kid calling out, "Round Cake Donut with Cocoa Puffs" or "Buttermilk Bar with Maple and Bacon." The point is, almost anything could be a donut, even a cloud.

What else could be a donut? Or maybe a better question - is there anything that couldn't be a donut?! Let's start with french fries and tacos.

Psycho Donuts is thrilled to announce the re-launch of Donut Fries, v2.0, launching on May 1!  Psycho fans were agitated - almost to the point of restraint - when we discontinued Donut Fries in 2011. Sometimes products need a return trip to the drawing board (or baking table). Case in point - the iPhone is much better now, with a working antenna! With donut fries, we had our own proverbial broken antenna to fix - but Chef Ron has created a tasty new version of Donut Fries that you're gonna love! And as always, you'll have your choice of dipping sauces - either ketchup or mayo (er, jelly or custard - but use your imagination).  Come and get some Donut Fries starting on May 1.

Back in December, we had a contest to see who could create the best Psycho version of Ding Fries are Done - in anticipation of Donut Fries 2.0! Our Psycho Fan (and esteemed Foursquare Mayor) Helen Garcia won the contest with this great rendition of Donut Fries are Done!

Many Psycho fans have been asking when TacOnuts will return for Psycho Pspring Pseason. The time has arrived! Pstarting on Wednesday April 25, it's the return of the Pstrawberry TacOnut! We start with a unique "DonuTaco." Inside the fresh taco shell you'll find a mountain of fresh strawberries topped with vanilla butter cream. Look for other varieties fresh fruit TacOnuts, as their own Psycho Pseason approaches!

And there ya have it - Donut Fries and Pstrawberry TacOnuts! Anything can be donutized! More proof that the meaning of life is donuts... or is it 42?

We did some Psycho Pondering and asked ourselves, "Selves, what if Psycho fans could DRINK our donuts?" Hmm, donuts in liquid form?

What do you get when you combine the crazy flavors of Psycho Donuts with ice, a chunk of cake donut (yes, a real donut...), and a blender? You get...

You were expecting cute bunnies at Psycho Donuts? Like his 2nd cousin, Headbanger, Rabbit Roadkill has seen better days. Jelly filling is oozing from his skid-marked ear. His swollen Donut-Hole eye gives him a pretty sad outlook... and though you may feel a pang of regret, you will eat him.

As if there weren't already tons of cute chicks at Psycho Donuts... get ready, as Psycho Donuts brings back the definitive Hot Chick. No, we're not talking about inflatables. We're referring to The Hot Chick Donut! Like many hot chicks, this one has a spicy bunny tattoo on its mid-section, and is filled with custard.

Massive PeepTrauma is a particularly peculiar premature peepling, precariously perched (say that 10 times) atop a precipitous portion of jelly filling, which sits atop a raised donut. We categorically decline the alternative name of this donut, Peepbortion... a name which has been gathering psteam in the Psycho underworld...

Psycho Patron Psaints and Ninja Turtles

The Patron Psaint of Ireland would be hanging out in the Psycho Padded cell, if he could. In one hand, he'd be holding a Cadillac Margarita Donut - part of our series of cocktail donuts, the Cadillac Margarita is filled with real tequila cream, and topped with green icing, a candy lime, and margarita salt.

In his other hand, he might be hanging onto our St. Patrick's Day inspired, Lucky and Confused. The partying cousin of Glazed and Confused, Lucky conforms to the Psycho Pshamrock Pstandard, and is topped with a lucky green streak of green drizzle.

And if that doesn't complete your St. Patrick's Day desires, make sure to try our annual Lucky CharmOnut. Sure, it has Lucky Charms on top - but the cereal has been psuper-charged with a healthy dose of EXTRA Lucky Charms marshmallows. This one available on St. Patty's Day only!
